description
This is a stunning furry purple felt tam from the 1940s\'. The hat is made of one round piece, which has been folded so as to have an indentation at the top.
The bottom of the hat consists of coordinating grosgrain band that criss-crosses at the front and extend towards the top. This hat is supposed to be worn as shown in the photos, allowing some har to be shown at the front. A matching color spider half veil is attached, and it can be worn down, to cover half the face, or tucked in between the fold at the top.
A tam, short for Tam O’ Shanter, is a soft, voluminous round hat, usually with a round seam that joins the flat crown to the sides. Tams often have a band around the bottom that gathers in the voluminous crown and secures the hat to the head of its wearer.
Label: Mr. Rickie Original + size label: 22 1/2 plus store label: LEHT & CO, Allentown , established 1850.
Printed inside the hat: LaVienne Imported body Made in Austria
This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
