40s Tilt Hat in Taupe Wool With Veil and Feathers – Better 。This hat is a collectors dream! It is an English registered Wimbledon tilt hat from the 1940s\'. The hat is made of fine taupe felt and consists of a short brim plus a tall crown which is gathered at the front. At one side there is a grosgrain bow made of coordinating color. From this bow there are gorgeous beige feathers projecting upwards and forward. A matching beige color strip of veiling surrounds the crown and ties at the back. There is a rigid \"O\" ring attached to the inside back to hold the hat in a tilted position. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
